Know Sure Thing (KST) Calculator

Calculate four prior-close rate-of-change cycles, their complete-window simple averages, the fixed 1:2:3:4 weighted KST sum and its signal-line average.

Enter four ROC cycles and ordered HLC bars

Use one source ordered oldest to newest. The standard daily-style 10/15/20/30 ROC, 10/10/10/15 SMA and 9 signal defaults are prefilled.

One completed bar per line. Close must lie inside the high-low range. Separate values with commas, semicolons or tabs.

KST boundary: The signal line is a named arithmetic series only. This page does not classify its sign, crossing, momentum, direction, divergence or trading use.

How Know Sure Thing is calculated

ROC(L) = 100 × (Close[i] − Close[i − L]) ÷ Close[i − L]
KST = SMA(ROC1) + 2 × SMA(ROC2) + 3 × SMA(ROC3) + 4 × SMA(ROC4)
Signal = SMA(KST, signal period)

Each ROC uses the close L completed rows earlier as its denominator. Each cycle average is withheld until its complete window exists; the KST begins only when all four cycles are complete.

The 2025 MetaQuotes CodeBase sample uses a different current-close ROC denominator. Version 1.0.0 follows the published prior-close ROC definition and therefore does not promise an exact match to that sample.

Assumptions and limits

  • Each ROC period must be a whole number from 1 to 200; each SMA and signal period must be from 2 to 200.
  • The required row count is derived from the slowest ROC/SMA cycle plus the complete signal window.
  • Close drives the calculation; high and low are retained for validation and source context.
  • Changing any period changes the warm-up boundary and the compared price cycles.
  • Sign, threshold, crossover, divergence, direction, confirmation and recommendation labels are withheld.

Worked example from the audited fixture

Reproduce it with “Load audited example”Using the standard 10/15/20/30 ROC lengths, 10/10/10/15 smoothing windows and signal period 9, the 60-close fixture produces current smoothed ROC values 2.445675, 3.850201, 6.920496 and 10.416513. Their 1/2/3/4 weighted sum is KST 72.573617; the signal is 75.724193, leaving a difference of −3.150576.

How to interpret the result

The negative difference says only that this entered KST value is below its nine-value simple average. The result depends on four distinct lookbacks and the prior-close ROC denominator. It is not a crossover instruction or a forecast.

Frequently asked questions

  • Enter four ROC periods, four corresponding SMA periods, one signal period and enough ordered high-low-close rows for every complete window.
  • Each ROC is one hundred times current close minus the close L rows earlier, divided by that earlier close.
  • Each cycle uses a complete-window simple moving average with its separately entered period.
  • The four smoothed ROCs are multiplied by fixed weights one, two, three and four and then added.
  • It is a complete-window simple moving average of the KST series using the entered signal period.
  • It begins after the slowest ROC-plus-SMA cycle is complete and one full signal window is available.
  • The 2025 CodeBase sample uses a current-close ROC denominator; version 1.0.0 follows the published prior-close denominator.
  • No. Sign, threshold, crossover, divergence, direction, confirmation, entry and exit interpretations are withheld.
