Market-hours clock and converter

Forex Market Hours Clock & Time Zone Converter

See the current Sydney, Tokyo, London and New York reference windows in your time zone, or convert one UTC date and time across all four centres. Named IANA zones apply the clock-change rules installed in your browser. These are reference hours—not verified dealer hours or trading recommendations.

The source is explicitly UTC, which avoids ambiguous or nonexistent local wall times during clock changes.

Forex market hours and time conversion explained

The clock defines four local financial-centre reference windows and converts their boundaries into actual UTC instants using the named zone. The converter starts from one entered UTC instant and formats it in each zone. The New York 17:00 Sunday-to-Friday boundary provides a separate reference week. These are educational schedule conventions—not exchange opening bells.

How to convert UTC into forex session times

Enter the UTC calendar date and time, then choose 12-hour or 24-hour display. The page creates one UTC instant and formats that same instant in your selected zone, Australia/Sydney, Asia/Tokyo, Europe/London and America/New_York.

Local display = entered UTC instant formatted in the selected IANA time zone

Worked example

On 15 July 2026, 13:00 UTC formats as 23:00 in Sydney, 22:00 in Tokyo, 14:00 in London and 09:00 in New York under the installed named-zone rules. The local calendar date is shown because a conversion can cross midnight.

This is different from the Broker Server Time Converter, which starts from a broker wall-clock timestamp and requires the date-specific source offset you verified.

How named-zone conversion handles clock changes

The browser's Intl.DateTimeFormat implementation accepts IANA time-zone identifiers. The underlying IANA database is updated when political authorities change UTC offsets or daylight-saving rules, although the version installed on a device is not exposed to this page. See the official IANA Time Zone Database and ECMA-402 internationalization specification.

For 2026, official sources show different change dates for the United States, United Kingdom and New South Wales. That mismatch can temporarily change the duration of London/New York or Sydney/Tokyo schedule overlaps. See NIST's US rules, UK clock-change guidance, and NSW daylight-saving guidance.

Dealer-hours and market-data limits

  • Retail spot forex is not a single centralized exchange with one authoritative opening bell.
  • The CFTC explains that OTC retail forex customers trade against their dealer and that the dealer controls its platform and offered conditions.
  • Weekend, maintenance, rollover, symbol and holiday hours can differ by dealer, entity, instrument and jurisdiction.
  • This page does not fetch quotes, spreads, volume, order-book depth, volatility, news or dealer status.
  • Reference-window overlap does not establish liquidity, direction, price movement, pair suitability or execution quality.

Read the official CFTC retail forex advisory, then verify the trading-hours notice and symbol specification supplied by your dealer.

Holiday closures remain a separate check

The clock intentionally does not join session windows to holiday rows. A public holiday does not by itself prove that a dealer is closed, and an open platform does not guarantee normal conditions. Use the sourced Bank Holiday Calendar for date research and verify dealer or venue notices directly.

Evidence guide

Named-zone session methodology

Four conventional reference windows are anchored to their own IANA zones: Sydney 08:00–17:00, Tokyo 09:00–18:00, London 08:00–17:00 and New York 08:00–17:00. The browser converts those local boundaries to UTC instants using its installed time-zone data.

A window is active when the current instant is at or after its converted start and before its converted end, subject to the separate Sunday-to-Friday New York 17:00 reference-week boundary.

Worked example

At 14:00 UTC on 15 January 2026, London local time is 14:00 and New York local time is 09:00. Both instants fall inside their respective 08:00–17:00 reference windows, so the page reports a schedule overlap.

The example is a civil-time conversion, not evidence about quotes, liquidity or dealer availability.

How to interpret the result

“Active” means only that the instant falls inside this page’s named-zone reference interval. It does not confirm that a particular broker accepts orders or that a pair has favorable spreads or volume.

Assumptions and limits

  • Retail spot forex has no single centralized exchange clock.
  • Dealer maintenance, holiday, rollover and symbol schedules can differ from these reference windows.
  • The browser’s installed time-zone database can lag a newly announced rule change.
  • No quotes, spreads, volume, volatility, news or execution status are fetched.

Frequently asked questions

  • No. They are conventional local reference windows for four financial centres. Retail dealer hours, maintenance windows, holidays and symbol availability can differ.
  • Each window remains anchored to a named IANA zone. The browser converts the local boundary to UTC using its installed time-zone data instead of applying a manually hardcoded seasonal offset.
  • Countries do not always change their clocks on the same date. During those mismatch periods, two local reference windows can overlap for a different number of UTC hours.
  • Enter the UTC date and time in the converter. It formats the same instant in your selected zone and the Sydney, Tokyo, London and New York named zones, including each local date and UTC offset.
  • It means the current instant falls between Sunday 17:00 and Friday 17:00 in America/New_York under this page's convention. It does not confirm that a dealer accepts orders.
  • Holiday dates and dealer closures are separate facts. This route does not infer a closure or liquidity condition from the calendar; use the sourced holiday page and verify dealer notices.
  • No. The clock reports schedule state only. It does not measure volume, spreads, volatility, direction, expected return or suitability.
  • Check the device clock, selected zone and browser or operating-system updates. The page relies on device time and installed time-zone data, whose version is not exposed here.
