Every output is deterministic arithmetic from the selected method and entered candle. Labels such as R1 and S1 do not prove resistance, support, reversal probability, direction or an entry signal.

How the six pivot methods differ

All outputs are arithmetic transformations of your inputs. The method determines the central pivot formula, the level spacing and whether an open price is required.

Worked example: Traditional pivot levels

Previous high 1.1000, low 1.0800 and close 1.0950P = (1.1000 + 1.0800 + 1.0950) ÷ 3 = 1.0916667. R1 = 2P − low = 1.1033333. S1 = 2P − high = 1.0833333.

How to interpret the result

These are formula reference levels derived from the entered candle. Their P, R and S labels do not show that price will react, reverse or break out, and they do not account for spread, volatility, liquidity or execution.

Data and method limits

  • Use OHLC values from one defined candle, data provider, timezone, session policy and pivot period.
  • Daily and intraday feeds can have different candles, so two platforms can produce different levels without either formula being wrong.
  • Traditional and Classic share P, R1/R2 and S1/S2, but their extended levels differ. Select the same named variant used by the comparison platform.
  • Woodie uses the current period open; DeMark uses the previous period open. The calculator does not substitute the previous close for either required open.
  • Reference price is user-entered and is never treated as a live or executable quote.
  • The output excludes probability, trend, volatility, order execution, spread, commission and suitability.

Sources and methodology

  • TradingView — Pivot Points Standard documentation publishes the Traditional, Fibonacci, Woodie, Classic, DeMark and Camarilla formula conventions used for comparison.
  • The page uses Pivot Levels model 1.1.0 and user-entered OHLC only. Platforms can use different naming conventions, timezones, session cutoffs and candle feeds, so compare both the formula label and candle source.

Frequently asked questions

  • The central pivot P is the previous high plus previous low plus previous close, divided by three. This calculator then derives the documented Traditional R1–R5 and S1–S5 levels.
  • Both use the same P, R1, R2, S1 and S2 formulas. Their extended levels differ: Classic places R3/R4 and S3/S4 at two and three prior ranges from P, while Traditional uses its own R3–R5 and S3–S5 formulas.
  • This calculator follows the documented Woodie formula that weights the current period open: P equals previous high plus previous low plus two times current open, divided by four.
  • DeMark changes an intermediate value X depending on whether the previous close is below, above or equal to the previous open. That makes the previous open a required formula input.
  • Yes. Differences in method labels, daily versus intraday feeds, timezone, session cutoff and included trading hours can change the OHLC candle and therefore the derived levels.
  • No. R and S are conventional formula labels. The calculator does not estimate reaction probability, level strength, reversal likelihood or breakout likelihood.
  • No. The optional reference price only reports whether the entered value is above, below or equal to P and its distance from P. It does not infer direction or recommend a trade.
  • No. Every price is entered manually and calculated locally in the browser. Use a broker or data platform to obtain a consistent, observed OHLC candle and verify its session definition.
