The browser performs deterministic arithmetic only. It does not contact a broker, exchange, price feed, trading account, margin service or order ticket.

Specification boundary: BTC spot, CFD, perpetual and futures products can use different quantity units, price increments, currencies, margin rules and order grids. Verify every field and product availability on the intended venue or server.

How Bitcoin profit and loss is calculated

Direction-adjusted Bitcoin price change = (exit − entry) × +1 for long or −1 for short
Gross quote-currency P/L = direction-adjusted price change × contract size × lots
Gross account-currency P/L = gross quote P/L × quote-to-account rate
Net entered P/L = gross account P/L − entered total costs

The core arithmetic follows the MetaTrader CFD profit convention: closing price minus opening price, multiplied by contract size and lots, with direction applied. The exact broker contract is required because BTCUSD labels can represent 0.01 BTC, 1 BTC or another provider-defined amount per lot.

The entered pip or tick size expresses the price movement as smaller increments. It does not independently change gross money because full price difference times contract size and lots already contains the same identity. A USD 2,500 move contains 2,500 increments when the entered size is USD 1.

Net P/L subtracts only the nonnegative account-currency total entered by the user. Spread, commission, overnight funding, slippage, conversion and tax can affect a real result. Enter a verified combined amount or interpret zero costs as gross-only arithmetic.

A careful Bitcoin profit-calculation workflow

  1. Verify the exact broker-server Bitcoin symbol, contract size, price increment and profit currency.
  2. Confirm client eligibility, trading hours, weekend treatment and whether overnight funding applies.
  3. Choose long or short and enter confirmed fills or clearly hypothetical prices.
  4. Enter broker-permitted lots instead of substituting a spot-BTC amount or futures contract count.
  5. Enter the scenario conversion rate and complete known account-currency costs.
  6. For an actual trade, reconcile fills, funding, fees and conversion against the broker statement.

Audited worked example

The audited example is a long entered at USD 60,000 and exited at USD 62,500, using 2 lots, contract size 0.01 BTC per lot, an entered USD 1 increment, USD-to-USD conversion 1 and USD 4 total costs. The favorable USD 2,500 move equals 2,500 increments. Gross P/L is USD 50 and net entered P/L is USD 46.

How to interpret it

USD 46 describes only the entered price path, contract and costs. It is not expected weekly or monthly income. A reversed long move would be negative, and funding, spread, fills, conversion or product restrictions can make a broker statement differ.

Bitcoin CFDs, spot bitcoin and bitcoin futures do not share one automatic trading unit

BTCUSD and Bitcoin can label different products. A bitcoin CFD is an over-the-counter broker contract sized with the broker’s own lot or contract definition. Spot bitcoin represents an entered amount of the asset on an exchange or wallet. Bitcoin futures use an exchange-defined multiplier and tick. A related underlying price does not make these units interchangeable.

FXCM currently documents 100 of its BTC contracts as one bitcoin, while IG’s MT4 specification documents one Bitcoin contract as one BTC. This difference is why the calculator keeps contract size and price increment editable. Neither provider’s convention is a universal preset.

Assumptions and limits

  • No live, delayed, settlement or forecast Bitcoin price is retrieved.
  • The entered broker contract, increment, volume and conversion are not independently verified.
  • One total-cost field cannot reconstruct spread, commission, funding or slippage.
  • Entry notional is descriptive exposure, not margin, cash paid or maximum loss.
  • Product eligibility, weekend gaps, order rejection, liquidation and tax are outside the model.
  • The output is scenario arithmetic, not a profit promise, signal or financial advice.

Where to verify Bitcoin inputs and availability

Open the exact BTC spot or derivative specification. Confirm quantity or contract units, price increment, settlement currency, minimum, maximum and step, calculation mode, trading hours, fees, funding and client permissions. A platform or venue supplies its current product values; the page does not infer them from the symbol label.

Confirm that the product and client classification are legally available in the relevant jurisdiction. The FCA prohibition on firms selling, distributing or marketing cryptoasset derivatives to UK retail clients remains in force. This page does not determine residency, professional status, broker permissions or regulatory eligibility.

Leveraged CFDs can produce rapid losses. Protection, availability and contract terms depend on jurisdiction, entity and client classification; the calculator does not determine which rules apply to a user.

Frequently asked questions

  • Apply long or short direction to exit minus entry, multiply by entered broker contract size and lots, convert currency, then subtract entered total costs.
  • The direction factor reverses the raw price change, so a lower entered exit is favorable and a higher entered exit is unfavorable before costs.
  • MetaTrader CFD profit arithmetic multiplies price change by contract size and lots, while the exact broker-server symbol supplies contract size.
  • It expresses the BTCUSD price change as smaller broker increments. Gross money still follows full price change times contract size times lots.
  • Enter a verified account-currency total for the whole scenario. The page does not invent spread, commission, funding, slippage or tax.
  • No. Entry price times contract size and lots describes entered exposure. Required margin, maximum loss and cash paid follow different rules.
  • No. It is arithmetic for one entered Bitcoin price path and says nothing about probability, repeatability or future performance.
  • Use confirmed fills, exact server specifications, currency conversion and complete costs, then compare with the broker statement, which remains authoritative.
