How entered weights become currency amounts

Weight mode treats every nonnegative value as a relative proportion. A value of 3 is three times a value of 1; the entries do not need to total 100. The calculated amounts are rounded in integer minor units and reconciled by stable bucket ID so the displayed total matches capital exactly.

Bucket share = Entered weight / Sum(All entered weights)
Ideal amount = Total capital x Bucket share
Displayed amount = Integer minor-unit allocation using stable largest-remainder reconciliation

Amount mode preserves the currency amounts entered. When they exceed total capital, the tool withholds allocated outputs and reports the overage instead of presenting an invalid allocation as usable.

Worked example from the audited fixture

Divide $100 among three user-defined buckets with equal weights of 1, 1 and 1. Each ideal share is $33.333333. Because cents cannot represent all three repeating decimals, the stable largest-remainder method assigns $33.34 to the first stable bucket and $33.33 to each of the other two. The displayed amounts reconcile exactly to $100.00 with no unallocated capital.

How to interpret the result

The extra cent is a deterministic rounding remainder, not evidence that the first bucket deserves a larger allocation. Changing row IDs or the entered weights can change which bucket receives a residual minor unit. The tool applies the proportions supplied; it does not decide whether those proportions are diversified, suitable or likely to perform.

Assumptions and limits

  • All capital, labels, weights and amounts are user-entered. No account, price or performance data is fetched.
  • Weights are relative values, not percentages that must total 100. Their proportions are converted into shares transparently.
  • The tool supports whole-unit JPY and two-decimal amounts for the other listed currencies; exponent notation is rejected.
  • No currency conversion is performed. Every bucket is denominated in the one selected currency.
  • No return, volatility, correlation, liquidity, tax, risk tolerance or diversification assumption is included.
  • The output is not an investment, trading, portfolio or asset-allocation recommendation.
