What gross notional means here

Each position's absolute base units are valued in the selected account currency. The values are added without offsetting buys against sells. Signed capacity is the entered cap minus that gross total.

Position gross notional = Absolute base units x Base-to-account rate
Used gross notional = Sum(Position gross notional)
Signed capacity = User-defined cap - Used gross notional
Additional candidate units = Max(Signed capacity, 0) / Candidate base-to-account rate

Assumptions and limits

  • The cap is user-defined. It is not a broker limit, regulatory limit, safe maximum or recommendation.
  • Reference prices and third-currency conversion rates are manually entered and are not live quotes.
  • Opposing positions are not netted because this tool measures gross absolute base-leg notional.
  • Margin, leverage, free margin, equity, stop-out, liquidation, maintenance margin and broker volume limits are excluded.
  • Candidate units and lots express arithmetic capacity under the entered cap, not order size, affordability or permission to trade.
  • Contract sizes are stored instrument data; verify the exact broker symbol specification before use.

Frequently asked questions

  • It is the difference between a cap you enter and the summed absolute base-leg notional of the entered positions, all expressed in one account currency.
  • No. The cap is entirely user-defined and is not a broker, regulatory, margin, liquidation or safety threshold.
  • Gross notional measures absolute exposure. Netting a buy against a sell would change the metric into net exposure and hide the gross position size.
  • Absolute base units are multiplied by a base-to-account rate derived from the entered reference price and, when needed, a third-currency conversion rate.
  • It means the entered gross notional exceeds the user-defined cap. The separate excess metric shows the positive overage amount.
  • No. It is an arithmetic translation of remaining notional only and does not check margin, leverage, broker limits, liquidity or suitability.
  • No. All prices and any cross-currency conversion rates are entered manually for the scenario.
  • No. Notional is the value basis of exposure. Margin is a separate broker calculation that can depend on leverage, symbol, account and portfolio rules.
