How Awesome Oscillator is calculated

Median price[i] = (high[i] + low[i]) ÷ 2
AO[i] = SMA(Median price, 5) − SMA(Median price, 34)

Version 1.0.0 uses the fixed periods in the published MetaQuotes source. Both simple averages are calculated from the same entered median-price sequence.

The first reportable value is zero-based index 33, when 34 completed bars exist. Earlier 5-period averages remain visible as warm-up context but do not create an AO value.

Assumptions and limits

  • At least 34 ordered high-low bars are required.
  • Rows must be oldest to newest and use one symbol, timeframe and feed.
  • The page uses fixed periods 5 and 34; it is not a configurable moving-average crossover.
  • Available history and feed prices can make the result differ from a terminal buffer.
  • Signed values are displayed neutrally without histogram-color, zero-line, trend or trade labels.

Worked example from the audited fixture

Reproduce it with “Load audited example”The 40-bar fixture produces seven reportable values. On the final row, the five-period median-price SMA is 118.600000 and the 34-period SMA is 111.250000, so Awesome Oscillator = 118.600000 − 111.250000 = 7.350000.

How to interpret the result

The positive difference says only that the short entered median-price average is above the long one. The fixed 5 and 34 windows and the 34-bar warm-up govern the value. It is not a color, zero-line or trade signal.
