How Accelerator Oscillator is calculated

Median price[i] = (high[i] + low[i]) ÷ 2
AO[i] = SMA(Median price, 5) − SMA(Median price, 34)
AC[i] = AO[i] − SMA(AO, 5)

Version 1.0.0 calculates AO through the same governed engine as the standalone Awesome Oscillator route, then subtracts the latest 5-period simple average of reportable AO values.

The first reportable AC value is zero-based index 37: 34 bars establish the first AO value, followed by four more bars to complete the first 5-value AO average.

Assumptions and limits

  • At least 38 ordered high-low bars are required.
  • Rows must be oldest to newest and use one symbol, timeframe and feed.
  • The fixed 5/34 AO periods and fixed 5-period AO average follow the published source.
  • Available history and feed prices can make the result differ from a terminal buffer.
  • The page does not classify colors, zero-line crosses, acceleration, direction or trades.

Worked example from the audited fixture

Reproduce it with “Load audited example”The same 40-bar fixture gives current Awesome Oscillator 7.350000 and its five-value simple average 7.270000. Accelerator Oscillator = 7.350000 − 7.270000 = 0.080000, with only three reportable AC points after warm-up.

How to interpret the result

The 0.080000 value is the latest AO deviation from its own five-value average. Its sign is an arithmetic relationship, not a verified change in acceleration or a crossover instruction. The result also inherits the AO 5/34 warm-up.
