Enter three periods and ordered HLC bars

Use completed bars from one symbol, timeframe and broker feed. Periods must satisfy fast less than middle less than slow.

Entered

One completed bar per line. Close must lie inside the high-low range. Separate values with commas, semicolons or tabs.

Ultimate Oscillator boundary: This page reports the published weighted arithmetic only. It does not classify thresholds, divergence, direction, entries or exits.

How the Ultimate Oscillator is calculated

True low = min(low, previous close)
Buying pressure = close − true low
True range = max(high, previous close) − min(low, previous close)
UO = 100 × (4 × fast ratio + 2 × middle ratio + slow ratio) ÷ 7

Each period ratio is the sum of buying pressure divided by the sum of true range over that period. The current row and previous period minus one derived rows are included.

Version 1.0.0 defaults to 7, 14 and 28. The first reportable value is zero-based index equal to the slow period because the first row supplies only the previous close boundary.

Assumptions and limits

  • Periods must be whole numbers from 2 to 200 with fast less than middle less than slow.
  • At least slow period plus one ordered HLC bars are required.
  • A reportable rolling true-range sum of zero is undefined and is rejected.
  • Rows must use one symbol, timeframe and broker feed.
  • Threshold, divergence, direction, confirmation, entry and exit interpretations are withheld.

Worked example from the audited fixture

Reproduce it with “Load audited example”The 12-bar fixture uses fast, middle and slow periods 3, 5 and 7. Its latest pressure-to-range averages are 9 ÷ 15 = 0.600000, 16 ÷ 24 = 0.666667 and 23 ÷ 36 = 0.638889. Applying weights 4, 2 and 1 gives Ultimate Oscillator 62.460317.

How to interpret the result

The value combines three entered buying-pressure ratios with fixed weights. It depends on the prior-close true-range boundary and all three lookbacks. The page does not map 62.460317 to overbought, oversold, divergence or a trade.

Frequently asked questions

  • Enter fast, middle and slow periods plus at least slow period plus one ordered high-low-close bars from one source.
  • True low is the lower of current low and previous close; buying pressure is current close minus that true low.
  • True range is maximum of current high and previous close minus minimum of current low and previous close.
  • Each ratio divides the rolling sum of buying pressure by the rolling sum of true range over its own period.
  • The fast, middle and slow ratios receive weights four, two and one, then their weighted sum is divided by seven and multiplied by 100.
  • The first Ultimate Oscillator value appears at zero-based index equal to the slow period.
  • The published ratio is undefined, so version 1.0.0 rejects the calculation instead of inventing a value.
  • No. Threshold, divergence, direction, confirmation, entry and exit interpretations are withheld.
