Enter one period and ordered high-low bars

Each output uses the current completed row and previous period minus one rows.

Entered

One completed bar per line. High must be at least low.

Aroon boundary: The two percentages only encode recency of rolling extremes. This page does not label trend, strength, crossovers, thresholds, entries or exits.

How Aroon is calculated

Aroon Up = 100 × (N − bars since window high) ÷ N
Aroon Down = 100 × (N − bars since window low) ÷ N

Version 1.0.0 follows the published MetaQuotes period-bar implementation. The first value reports at zero-based index N − 1.

If the same high or low appears more than once inside a window, the most recent occurrence wins. With this exact N-row source profile, reportable values lie above zero and at or below 100.

Assumptions and limits

  • Period must be an integer from 2 to 200.
  • At least one complete period of ordered high-low bars is required.
  • Rows must be oldest to newest and come from one symbol, timeframe and feed.
  • Other implementations can use a period-plus-one window or a different equal-extreme tie rule.
  • Trend, strength, threshold, crossover, entry and exit interpretations are withheld.

Worked example from the audited fixture

Reproduce it with “Load audited example”The eight-bar fixture uses period 5. In the latest window, the most recent highest high occurred one bar ago and the most recent lowest low two bars ago. Aroon Up = (5 − 1) ÷ 5 × 100 = 80, and Aroon Down = (5 − 2) ÷ 5 × 100 = 60.

How to interpret the result

The two values encode the age of window extremes under the most-recent-tie rule. They do not measure the size of the move between those extremes, and 80 versus 60 is not converted into a direction or trade signal.

Frequently asked questions

  • Enter a period and at least that many ordered high-low bars from one symbol, timeframe and feed.
  • One hundred times period minus bars since the window high, divided by the period.
  • One hundred times period minus bars since the window low, divided by the period.
  • The current completed row and previous period minus one rows are included.
  • Version 1.0.0 selects the most recent equal extreme, matching a current-to-older MetaQuotes series search.
  • The published source searches exactly N bars, so the oldest possible extreme is N minus one bars ago.
  • Not necessarily. A period-plus-one window or a different equal-extreme tie rule changes the values.
  • No. Trend, strength, thresholds, crossovers, entries and exits are withheld.
