Enter one period and ordered close prices

The same entered series and period feed the first, second and third EMA passes.

One completed close per line. Commas, semicolons or tabs are accepted.

DEMA/TEMA boundary: The page reports two arithmetic blends. It does not rank them, classify slope or price position, or issue crossover, trend, entry or exit labels.

How DEMA and TEMA are calculated

DEMA = 2 × EMA1 − EMA2
TEMA = 3 × EMA1 − 3 × EMA2 + EMA3
EMA alpha = 2 ÷ (period + 1)

Version 1.0.0 seeds each sequential EMA pass with the first available value of its input series. DEMA becomes reportable at zero-based index 2 × (N − 1); TEMA becomes reportable at 3 × (N − 1).

Internal warm-up values remain visible in the exact table so the latest result can be independently reconstructed. Applied price is entered close and horizontal chart shift is zero.

Assumptions and limits

  • Period must be an integer from 2 to 200.
  • The combined page requires at least 3 × (period − 1) + 1 ordered closes.
  • Rows must be oldest to newest and come from one symbol, timeframe and feed.
  • Terminal values can differ when the history boundary, applied price or initialization convention differs.
  • Slope, relative speed, crossover, trend, entry and exit interpretations are withheld.

Worked example from the audited fixture

Reproduce it with “Load audited example”The seven-close fixture uses period 3, so alpha is 0.5. The final EMA passes are 105.437500, 104.234375 and 103.281250. DEMA = 2 × 105.437500 − 104.234375 = 106.640625, while TEMA = 3 × 105.437500 − 3 × 104.234375 + 103.281250 = 106.890625.

How to interpret the result

DEMA and TEMA combine sequential EMAs from the same entered series; they are not simple averages with shorter periods. The first-value seeds and warm-up lengths affect both outputs. Neither value is labelled faster, better or directional.

Frequently asked questions

  • Enter one period and at least 3 × (period − 1) + 1 ordered close prices from one symbol, timeframe and feed.
  • DEMA is two times the first EMA minus the second sequential EMA.
  • TEMA is three times the first EMA minus three times the second EMA plus the third sequential EMA.
  • Each pass is seeded with the first available value of its input series and uses alpha two divided by period plus one.
  • Version 1.0.0 reports DEMA from zero-based index 2 × (period − 1).
  • Version 1.0.0 reports TEMA from zero-based index 3 × (period − 1).
  • Only when the entered history boundary, period, applied close price, zero shift and initialization convention match.
  • No. The page does not classify slope, relative speed, crossover, trend, entries or exits.
