How Momentum and ROC are calculated

Momentum = Current price ÷ Price N rows earlier × 100
Rate of Change % = (Current price ÷ Price N rows earlier − 1) × 100
Absolute change = Current price − Price N rows earlier

The MetaTrader-style Momentum index uses 100 as its unchanged arithmetic baseline. Percentage ROC expresses the same ratio around zero, so both values belong in one calculator.

Every row is consumed in the order entered. Labels are descriptive and the page does not infer dates, candle spacing or missing observations.

Worked example from the audited fixture

Reproduce it with “Load audited example”With period 3 and entered prices 100, 102, 101, 105, 103 and 108, the final comparison is 108 versus 101. The absolute change is 7, Momentum is 108 ÷ 101 × 100 = 106.930693, and Rate of Change is 6.930693%.

How to interpret the result

Momentum 106.930693 and ROC 6.930693% express the same three-row price ratio around different baselines. They describe only the entered endpoints and do not establish trend persistence, strength or the next price direction.

Assumptions and limits

  • All prices must use one symbol, timeframe, broker feed and applied-price basis.
  • The page does not parse labels as dates, sort rows or fill missing candles.
  • Momentum and ROC are algebraically linked measurements, not independent confirmation signals.
  • Values above or below 100 are not classified as bullish, bearish, overbought or oversold.
  • The result describes entered observations only and does not forecast the next price.
