TRIX Calculator
Calculate TRIX from three sequential EMA passes, with the rate-of-change, simple signal average, histogram difference and warm-up boundary exposed.
Enter smoothing, average and ordered closes
The same completed close series feeds all three EMA passes. The signal line is a simple average of reportable TRIX values.
One completed close per line. Commas, semicolons or tabs are accepted.

How TRIX is calculated
TRIX = (current EMA3 − previous EMA3) ÷ previous EMA3
Average = S-period SMA of reportable TRIX
Difference = TRIX − average
Version 1.0.0 seeds each EMA pass with the first available value of its input. TRIX first reports at zero-based index 3 × (N − 1) + 1.
The average first reports after S reportable TRIX values. The MetaQuotes formula permits moving-average choices; this page freezes EMA for all three passes and SMA for the displayed average so the result is reproducible.
Assumptions and limits
- Smoothing and average periods must be integers from 2 to 200 and 1 to 200 respectively.
- The page requires at least 3 × (N − 1) + S ordered closes.
- Rows must be oldest to newest and come from one symbol, timeframe and feed.
- Terminal values can differ when applied price, MA method, history boundary or seed differs.
- Zero-line, slope, crossover, momentum, entry and exit interpretations are withheld.

How to interpret the result
The displayed percentages come from a rate of change in the third EMA, not from the raw close. The first-value EMA seeds and three-pass warm-up matter. A positive difference from the signal average is not a crossover instruction.
Frequently asked questions
- Enter smoothing and simple-average periods plus at least 3 × (smoothing period − 1) + average period ordered closes.
- The third sequential EMA value is compared with its previous value as a relative change.
- Each pass is seeded with the first available value of its input and uses alpha two divided by period plus one.
- Version 1.0.0 first reports TRIX at zero-based index 3 × (period − 1) + 1.
- It is a simple average of the latest entered number of reportable TRIX values.
- It is current TRIX minus its displayed simple average; the label does not imply a trade signal.
- Only when the same history boundary, close price, three EMA methods, simple-average method and seeds are used.
- No. Zero-line, slope, crossover, momentum, entry and exit interpretations are withheld.
