Enter one period and ordered HLCV bars

Use completed bars from one symbol, timeframe, broker feed and consistent volume type.

Entered

One completed bar per line. Close must lie inside the range and volume must be positive.

CMF boundary: The ratio is a numeric output only. This page does not label buying or selling pressure, thresholds, divergences, confirmation, entries or exits.

How Chaikin Money Flow is calculated

Multiplier = ((close − low) − (high − close)) ÷ (high − low)
Money-flow volume = multiplier × volume
CMF = N-row sum of money-flow volume ÷ N-row sum of volume

Version 1.0.0 sets the multiplier and contribution to zero when high equals low, avoiding an undefined division while preserving the entered volume in the rolling denominator.

The first reportable value is zero-based index N − 1. Each displayed ratio uses the current row and previous period minus one rows.

Assumptions and limits

  • Period must be an integer from 2 to 200.
  • At least one complete period of positive-volume HLCV bars is required.
  • Rows must use one symbol, timeframe, broker feed and consistent volume type.
  • Spot-forex tick volume is not centralized executed turnover.
  • Direction, pressure, thresholds, divergence, confirmation and trading interpretations are withheld.

Worked example from the audited fixture

Reproduce it with “Load audited example”The eight-bar fixture uses period 5. Latest money-flow volume is 625 from multiplier 0.5. Across the current window, money-flow volume sums to 453.333333 and volume sums to 5,600, so CMF = 453.333333 ÷ 5,600 = 0.080952.

How to interpret the result

The ratio aggregates entered close-location-weighted volume over one window. Its sign and size depend on bar ranges and the feed’s volume units. The result is not classified as accumulation, distribution or a trade direction.

Frequently asked questions

  • Enter a period and at least that many ordered high-low-close-volume bars from one consistent source.
  • Close location inside the range is expressed as close minus low minus high minus close, divided by high minus low.
  • Each row multiplier is multiplied by that same row’s entered volume.
  • The rolling sum of money-flow volume is divided by the rolling sum of volume across the same N rows.
  • Version 1.0.0 sets that row’s multiplier and contribution to zero while retaining its volume in the denominator.
  • The first value appears at zero-based index N minus one after one complete rolling period.
  • CMF is a rolling ratio; A/D is cumulative, and Chaikin Oscillator compares two EMAs of the cumulative A/D sequence.
  • No. Pressure, direction, thresholds, divergence, confirmation, entries and exits are withheld.
