One row per line. Commas, semicolons or tabs are accepted. The close must be inside the high-low range.

Chaikin boundary: The page calculates A/D and two EMAs from completed entered rows. It does not classify the zero line, turns, divergence, entries or exits.

How Chaikin Oscillator is calculated

A/D contribution = [(2 × close − high − low) ÷ (high − low)] × volume
A/D = prior A/D + contribution
CHO = fast EMA of A/D − slow EMA of A/D

Version 1.0.0 starts A/D from zero plus the first contribution and seeds both exponential averages with the first A/D value. The smoothing factor is 2 divided by period plus one.

The first reportable value begins at zero-based index equal to the slow period, matching the published MetaQuotes plot-start convention. A flat high-low bar contributes zero.

Assumptions and limits

  • The fast period must be below the slow period and at least slow period plus one rows are required.
  • Rows must be oldest to newest and use one symbol, timeframe, feed and volume type.
  • Spot-forex tick volume counts price changes and is not centralized exchange turnover.
  • Available history, the entered starting point and broker feed affect the absolute sequence.
  • The page uses completed entered rows and emits no zero-line, turn, divergence or trading label.

Worked example from the audited fixture

Reproduce it with “Load audited example”The 12-bar fixture uses fast period 3 and slow period 10. Its final cumulative A/D value is 225.833333; the fast and slow seeded EMAs are 225.260417 and 173.516383. Chaikin Oscillator = 225.260417 − 173.516383 = 51.744033.

How to interpret the result

The positive difference compares two EMAs of the entered cumulative A/D path. It depends on the A/D seed, volume convention and both EMA histories. The sign is not converted into accumulation, distribution or a trading recommendation.

Frequently asked questions

  • Enter fast and slow EMA periods plus at least slow period plus one ordered high-low-close-volume bars from one consistent feed.
  • The close-location multiplier two times close minus high minus low, divided by high minus low, is multiplied by entered volume.
  • The slow exponential moving average of cumulative A/D is subtracted from its fast exponential moving average.
  • Both exponential averages begin at the first calculated A/D value and then use smoothing factor two divided by period plus one.
  • The route models the conventional fast-minus-slow structure and fails closed when the periods are reversed or equal.
  • The A/D contribution is zero, matching the published MetaQuotes source and avoiding division by zero.
  • Not necessarily. Feed, volume type, available history and entered starting point can change the absolute buffer values.
  • No. The page does not classify the zero line, turns, divergence, trend, entries or exits.
