How Gator Oscillator is calculated
Lower[d] = −|Teeth raw[d−5] − Lips raw[d−3]|
Gator histogram display shift = min(8, 5) = +5
Version 1.0.0 calls the same governed median-price SMMA engine as the Alligator route. Values are compared at one display column so each fixed Alligator shift is respected.
The upper histogram is non-negative. The lower absolute gap carries a minus sign so it is drawn below zero. The standard Gator implementation displays both through a common +5 shift.
Assumptions and limits
- At least 18 ordered high-low bars are required for one fully aligned value.
- Rows must be oldest to newest and use one symbol, timeframe and feed.
- The standard 13/8/5 periods and 8/5/3 line shifts are fixed.
- Available history and the chosen starting row can change seeded SMMA values.
- Histogram colors, growing or fading states, phase names, direction and trades are withheld.

How to interpret the result
The lower value is negative only because the published display convention places that absolute gap below zero. Neither sign describes return direction. Both gaps compare shift-aligned Alligator values at one display column and do not create a market-state label.
