Entered

One completed bar per line. Open and close must be inside the high-low range.

Relative Vigor Index boundary: The page reports the published main and signal-line arithmetic. It does not interpret sign, crossovers, divergence, direction, entries or exits.

How Relative Vigor Index is calculated

Weighted up[i] = (C−O)[i] + 2(C−O)[i−1] + 2(C−O)[i−2] + (C−O)[i−3]
Weighted down[i] = (H−L)[i] + 2(H−L)[i−1] + 2(H−L)[i−2] + (H−L)[i−3]
RVI[i] = Sum(Weighted up, N) ÷ Sum(Weighted down, N)
Signal[i] = [RVI[i] + 2RVI[i−1] + 2RVI[i−2] + RVI[i−3]] ÷ 6

Version 1.0.0 follows the standard MetaQuotes source weights 1, 2, 2 and 1. The main line begins at zero-based index N plus 2, and its signal begins three bars later at N plus 5.

The published source guard requires N plus 9 bars before calculation. If a rolling weighted-range sum is zero, the source returns the rolling numerator instead of dividing; this page preserves and discloses that convention.

Assumptions and limits

  • At least period plus nine ordered OHLC bars are required; supported periods are 2 through 100.
  • Rows must be oldest to newest and use one symbol, timeframe and feed.
  • Open and close must be inside each entered high-low range.
  • The zero weighted-range fallback returns the rolling numerator, following the published source.
  • Main and signal values are displayed neutrally without crossover, direction, divergence or trade labels.

Worked example from the audited fixture

Reproduce it with “Load audited example”The 12-bar fixture uses RVI period 3. On the latest row, weighted close-open is 3 and weighted high-low is 22; their three-value rolling sums are 11 and 64. The main RVI is 11 ÷ 64 = 0.171875, and the weighted four-value signal is 0.115947.

How to interpret the result

The main value is a ratio of rolling weighted close-open movement to rolling weighted range. The signal is a separate 1/2/2/1 average of reportable main values. Their difference is not classified as direction, divergence or a trade.

Frequently asked questions

  • Enter a period from 2 through 100 and at least period plus nine ordered OHLC bars from one symbol, timeframe and feed.
  • Current, prior, second-prior and third-prior close-minus-open values use weights 1, 2, 2 and 1.
  • Current, prior, second-prior and third-prior high-minus-low ranges use the same weights 1, 2, 2 and 1.
  • The rolling sum of N weighted close-open values is divided by the rolling sum of N weighted high-low values.
  • The current and three prior main values use weights 1, 2, 2 and 1, then the total is divided by six.
  • Version 1.0.0 returns the rolling numerator, matching the published standard source convention.
  • Not necessarily. Feed history, entered starting point, symbol, timeframe and implementation history can affect the buffer.
  • No. The page does not classify sign, crossovers, divergence, direction, entries or exits.
