What does this calculator answer?

It answers: “Under these entered contribution amounts, SOL prices and costs, how much SOL is acquired and what are the resulting weighted and all-in average costs?” Equal cash contributions are labelled an equal-cash schedule. Different amounts still calculate, but the result is labelled variable-cash instead of being silently presented as standard DCA.

How the Solana DCA calculation works

SOL spend = contribution, or contribution − entered cost when costs are inside the budget
SOL acquired = SOL spend ÷ entered price per SOL
Total cash outlay = contribution + entered cost when costs are added
Asset-only average = total SOL spend ÷ total SOL acquired
All-in average cost = total cash outlay ÷ total SOL acquired

The arithmetic treats SOL as the acquired asset unit. A row’s cash available for SOL is divided by its entered price per SOL. The page does not infer token decimals, wallet custody, network rewards, on-chain fees, exchange spread or whether a displayed SOL symbol represents spot ownership or a derivative.

Weighted, not simply averaged

Adding prices and dividing by the row count ignores how much SOL each row acquired. This model divides total entered asset spend or cash outlay by total acquired units.

Costs stay visible

Trading fees or other entered costs add cash outlay without adding SOL. Asset-only and all-in averages therefore answer different questions.

No hidden market data

Every purchase and current price is typed by the user. The tool does not silently mix delayed prices with historical rows or present a stale quote as current.

Worked example from the audited fixture

Reproduce it with “Load audited example”Enter three equal USD 500 contributions at USD 200, USD 160 and USD 250 per SOL, with USD 2 of costs added to each purchase. The rows acquire 2.5 SOL, 3.125 SOL and 2 SOL. Total acquired is 7.625 SOL, contributions are USD 1,500, entered costs are USD 6 and total outlay is USD 1,506. The asset-only weighted average is USD 196.72/SOL and the all-in average cost is USD 197.51/SOL. At an entered current price of USD 220, scenario value is USD 1,677.50, or USD 171.50 above entered outlay before unentered selling costs and tax.

How to interpret the result

The all-in average is total entered cash outlay divided by acquired SOL. It can exceed the asset-only average because fees add cash without adding SOL. A weighted average below the simple mean of entered prices is a mechanical result of buying more SOL at lower entered prices; it is not evidence that DCA will outperform another purchase plan.

  1. Choose one display currency. Convert records before entering them if purchases were made in different currencies; this calculator performs no exchange-rate conversion.
  2. Use cash contributions and per-SOL prices. Do not enter derivative lots, leverage or contract sizes as though they were acquired SOL. This route models unleveraged cash-to-asset accumulation arithmetic.
  3. Record the cost boundary. Include only trading fees or other purchase costs you intend the all-in average to contain. Do not enter the same amount in both the SOL price and extra-cost field.
  4. Keep current prices separate. Optional current-price inputs affect only the scenario-value section; they never rewrite purchase history or average cost.
  5. Reconcile the result with source documents. Exchange fills, broker statements and wallet or custody records remain the source of truth.
