The two mistakes I would check first are counting only one commission side and using the wrong currency. Both can make an otherwise sensible broker comparison misleading. A minimum spread of zero also says nothing about the spread on your actual entry and exit.
Read the applicable forex tariff

| International tier | Per side, per standard FX lot | One standard EUR/USD lot opened and closed |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | 3.50 | EUR7.00 commission |
| Classic | 2.50 | EUR5.00 commission |
| Advanced | 1.80 | EUR3.60 commission |
| Elite | 1.50 | EUR3.00 commission |
This illustration follows the published ECN tier table and commission schedule. A standard FX lot represents 100,000 units of the base currency. The rate depends on qualifying equity or volume and can change at recalculation; use the assigned tier rather than the lowest advertised rate. The account guide explains that choice.
These totals exclude the spread, financing and conversion. Commission on smaller trades must follow the platform’s actual rounding and any applicable minimum; do not assume a spreadsheet always matches the final booked amount.
Worked example: keep the currencies separate

Assume one standard EUR/USD lot, Basic ECN, a representative spread cost of 0.2 pip and EUR/USD at 1.10 for converting the commission. The spread and exchange rate are illustrative inputs, not measured FXOpen averages.
- Entry commission: EUR3.50.
- Exit commission: EUR3.50.
- Total commission: EUR7.00. At the assumed 1.10 conversion rate this is USD7.70.
- For 100,000 EUR, a 0.0001 price move is USD10. The assumed 0.2-pip spread therefore represents USD2.
- Illustrative spread plus round-trip commission: USD9.70, before financing, slippage or additional conversion costs.
Actual entry and exit rates, spreads and booked conversions can differ. Use the pip value calculator to check the currency relationship and compare the result with the trade statement. A USD-based pair uses a different commission currency rule from this EUR/USD example.
The spread floor is not the average
“From zero” means a quoted floor in the advertised conditions. It does not establish that the spread is zero for most of the session or when your strategy trades. Thin liquidity, market openings and news can change the bid/ask difference. An ECN label also does not guarantee a fill at the requested price.
If cost matters to a short-term strategy, record the displayed spread at its intended trading time across a useful sample of sessions. Keep that observation separate from executed slippage. We have not run either measurement for this guide.
Holding a trade can add another cost
Check the exact symbol’s swap or financing specification, its calculation currency and the rollover schedule. Rates can change and may differ between buy and sell positions. A calendar day is not always the same as one financing charge, particularly around multi-day adjustments or holidays.
The Islamic account guide explains FXOpen’s published replacement overnight commission conditions. A swap-free label should not be read as free overnight holding. Compare the actual charge for the proposed position and intended duration.
Gold and other CFDs need their own calculation
The public international account page gives commodity commissions as percentages of notional, while another pricing table also displays per-lot commodity figures. Those are not interchangeable units. We did not resolve a universal current gold tariff from those pages, so this guide does not print one.
Before a gold or other CFD trade, get the symbol specification and confirm whether the charge uses notional value, contracts, lots or another basis. Ask how it is applied on entry and exit. The contract size and conversion currency must match that basis. A forex pip-value shortcut cannot establish the total cost of every CFD.
Index commission may be advertised as zero, but spreads and financing remain possible. Share commission tables also have minimum-order charges and platform or order-type distinctions. Compare the complete symbol tariff, not a mixed list of the lowest numbers from different markets.
Payment and inactivity fees can matter too
The international funding table currently lists Volet at 0.5% for deposits and withdrawals; other method and regional schedules differ. The verified portal’s quote and any intermediary or conversion charge matter more than an old announcement saying payments were free. Read the deposit and withdrawal guides before choosing a method.
The inactivity support page linked from the international account table describes $10 monthly after more than 90 days of inactivity, increasing to $100 monthly after 365 days without trades or open positions, plus a $50 reactivation charge. The wording of its inactivity conditions needs care: do not assume a login or nominal transfer automatically prevents the charge. Confirm your account’s status and applicable contract with support. This schedule should not be applied indiscriminately to UK and EU accounts.
A cost checklist before opening the position
- Record the entity, platform, account tier and exact symbol.
- Confirm contract size, commission unit, currency and both trade sides.
- Use the current bid and ask to calculate the spread cost.
- Add financing for the intended holding period using the symbol schedule.
- Check payment/conversion costs separately, and plan what happens if the account becomes inactive.
- Compare expected cost with the actual statement after a trade; use our support guide to contact FXOpen about a discrepancy.
The main review places those costs alongside platform and entity limitations. A lower tariff is useful only if the account otherwise fits the job.
Frequently asked questions
Is FXOpen commission $3.50 per lot?
The Basic forex tier lists 3.50 per standard lot per side in the applicable tariff currency. For EUR/USD that means EUR3.50, not automatically USD3.50.
Does zero spread mean a free trade?
No. The advertised floor is not an average or guaranteed spread. Commission, financing, conversion and slippage can still contribute to cost.
What is FXOpen’s gold commission?
The reviewed public international commodity tables use conflicting bases. Confirm the exact XAU/USD account and symbol tariff before calculating a cost; we do not present an unverified universal number.
Does logging in prevent inactivity fees?
Do not assume so. The support page describes transaction and trading inactivity conditions. Confirm how the applicable agreement treats your account.
