A deposit amount answers one question: how much money will the funding route accept? It does not tell you whether the account suits your trading. Start with our XM broker review if you have not checked the company that would hold your account.
We separate three amounts below: the account minimum, the payment minimum, and the money needed for your own risk plan. Mixing them together is how a low opening requirement becomes an oversized first trade.
What is the minimum deposit for each XM account?
Start with the company named in your account agreement. These two published offerings illustrate why an XM minimum-deposit table needs a provider column. They are not a combined menu available to every reader.
| Provider shown on the source page | Account | Listed minimum |
|---|---|---|
| XM Global Limited, Belize | Standard | USD 5 |
| XM Global Limited, Belize | Ultra Low | USD 5 |
| XM Global Limited, Belize | Shares | USD 10,000 |
| Trading Point of Financial Instruments Limited, Cyprus/EEA | Ultra Low | USD 5 |
| Trading Point of Financial Instruments Limited, Cyprus/EEA | Zero | USD 5 |
Sources: XM Global account page and XM account page served for Cyprus/EEA. The first is a Hindi-language page; its language does not establish whether a particular resident can open an account. The legal provider and available products in your own application are the relevant checks.
Compare products in our XM account types guide. Before paying, read the minimum and currency displayed for your selected account and funding method. A payment route may require more than the account minimum.

What should you have ready before making a deposit?
- The legal name of your XM account provider and your chosen account type.
- The correct trading account and its base currency, particularly if you have more than one account.
- A payment source you own, with the current requirements for that method.
- Any verification requested through XM’s official account process.
- A spending limit that leaves household expenses and emergency money outside the trading account.
Account creation and funding are separate jobs. If your profile is unfinished, follow the XM account opening and verification guide before trying to solve a document request by making another payment.
Also think about the return journey. Read the XM withdrawal guide before choosing a funding method you may soon stop using. A convenient deposit route is less useful if you do not understand how money can come back through it.
How do you check the amount your payment method accepts?
- Confirm the account first. Match the account type and base currency to the account you intend to fund. If the details differ from your plan, correct that selection before entering an amount.
- Read the account minimum. Keep its currency attached to the number. USD 5 and five units of another currency are different amounts, even when a payment form shows a familiar currency symbol.
- Inspect the methods currently offered to you. Check the selected method’s minimum, maximum, payment currency and required ownership details. An online list of methods available somewhere in the XM group is not a substitute.
- Compare both requirements. If a payment method requires more than the account minimum, that route cannot be used at the lower amount. Consider another officially available route or postpone funding; do not increase your budget merely to clear a payment threshold.
- Check the amount expected to reach the account. Distinguish what your bank will debit from what XM will credit after any conversion or disclosed deductions. Resolve an unexplained difference before authorizing payment.
You have finished this check when you can state the account, payment route, debit currency, expected credit currency and applicable minimum without guessing. If one of those is unclear, ask official support about that specific item.
How do you calculate the minimum in your payment currency?
A USD minimum does not have a permanent equivalent in another currency. The conversion rate, conversion spread and any separate charges determine the amount you pay. Your payment currency, trading-account base currency and the currency of the quoted minimum can be three different things.
For an estimate, use USD amount × payment-currency units per USD = payment-currency amount before extra costs. In a hypothetical example, USD 5 at 20 payment-currency units per dollar equals 100 units. The rate of 20 is an arithmetic assumption, not a current exchange rate or an XM quote.

Compare the quote with a dated reference from our currency converter, then return to the provider’s payable total. A reference rate can help you notice a large difference; it does not replace the rate applied to your payment.
A bank’s name does not tell you which funding route is available. A card payment, local transfer and international transfer follow different instructions. Use the options displayed for your own account and obtain beneficiary details through the official process.
For rand examples and local-bank checks, use the separate XM South Africa guide. For other currencies and residences, start with the XM country guides. Local payment details belong alongside the relevant country’s conditions.
How do you review an XM deposit before payment?
Use the official website or app for your account provider. The sequence below explains the decisions to make; the wording and order of payment screens can differ between providers, devices and payment methods.
- Identify the destination account. Check its number or account label privately and confirm the base currency. This prevents funding a second account that you were not planning to trade.
- Choose an eligible method. Use a method displayed for your account and read its ownership and document requirements. If it is absent, ask XM whether it is available to you rather than copying instructions for another country.
- Check the amount and currency together. Recheck the total after changing either field. A currency change can alter the debit amount even though the intended trading balance stays the same.
- Read the costs and provider instructions. Note any conversion, fee or expected processing guidance shown for that route. If the flow takes you to a bank or payment provider, follow the destination reached through the official process.
- Review before authorizing. Compare the destination, debit amount and expected account credit with your plan. Stop if they do not agree. Only authorize a payment you understand and intend to make.
- Keep the confirmation privately. After a payment, retain its date, amount, currency, method and reference. Check the intended trading account for the credited balance; a bank authorization alone does not establish that the trading account has received it.
Do not send an extra deposit because a confirmation page closes unexpectedly. First establish whether the original payment was authorized, pending, completed or reversed with the relevant provider.
Does XM charge deposit fees?
XM’s published payment FAQ, displayed with a Cyprus/EEA footer when checked September 7, 2026, says XM does not charge deposit or withdrawal fees. It also notes possible external charges, including provider fees on wire transfers below USD 200. Confirm your own provider’s terms.
Separate the broker’s charge from the total cost of moving money. Read the payment method’s fee information and conversion quote before authorizing a transfer. A bank fee, intermediary charge or conversion difference can affect the final amount even when the broker charge is zero.
Repeated small transfers can be inefficient when a route applies a fixed charge. Compare the officially available options, but do not increase a deposit beyond your spending limit to reach a fee threshold.
Is a small deposit enough to trade?
The opening minimum does not answer this. Work backwards from the amount you can afford to lose on a planned trade, the stop distance and the smallest position your account actually permits.
For a purely illustrative USD 100 balance, a 1% planning limit is USD 1. If the smallest permitted position would lose USD 3 at your planned stop before costs, that trade does not fit the USD 1 limit. A tighter stop changes the trade itself; it should not be chosen solely to force the arithmetic to fit.
Use our lot size calculator with the actual contract details, then check the collateral separately with the margin calculator. The pip value calculator helps when the account currency differs from the instrument’s quote currency.
Gold needs the same discipline. For XAU/USD, confirm the contract size, tick value and minimum volume of the actual symbol; do not copy a EUR/USD lot calculation. Passing a margin check does not mean the potential loss is acceptable.
What should you do if the deposit has not appeared?
- Check which stage has evidence. Look at the payment provider’s status and the intended XM account balance. Keep an authorization, a settled bank debit and a trading-account credit separate.
- Read the method’s stated processing guidance. Use the relevant business-day or calendar-time basis. Do not apply a withdrawal timetable to a deposit.
- Confirm the destination and reference. Check whether the money reached another account you own, and whether the currency and reference match the payment. Avoid repeating the transaction while its status is unresolved.
- Contact official support with the record. Give the date, amount, currency, method and reference through the official channel. Ask which stage is outstanding and what information is needed to trace it.
Keep passwords, one-time security codes and full payment credentials out of messages. If the provider shows a reversal, confirm the next step with the bank or provider before making a replacement payment.
Which deposit mistakes are easiest to avoid?
- Treating the advertised minimum as a budget: calculate the planned position risk separately.
- Confusing payment currency with account currency: check both before confirming.
- Using an old bank instruction: obtain the current details through the official funding route.
- Ignoring a higher method minimum: compare available routes without exceeding your spending limit.
- Paying again to fix a delay: trace the first payment before authorizing another.
Frequently asked questions
Can I start XM with only $5?
The provider-specific examples above include accounts with that minimum. Confirm your available account and check that its payment method also accepts the amount. Whether the resulting balance supports any planned position depends on contract size, minimum volume, stop distance and costs. Use a demo if those constraints do not fit your budget.
Is the minimum the same for every payment method?
Do not assume so. Check the minimum displayed for the selected method alongside the account requirement. The amount you send may also differ from the amount credited when currencies differ or a provider applies a charge. Resolve that difference before payment.
Can I fund an account using a different currency?
Check which currencies the available payment method accepts. If the payment and trading account use different currencies, identify where conversion occurs and which rate and charges apply. Compare the expected debit with the expected account credit before confirming. Paying in another currency does not itself change the account’s base currency.
Why is my preferred bank or payment method missing?
Available methods depend on the account and its current funding options. Check that you are viewing the correct account, then ask official support about the missing method. Do not copy payment instructions from another country or use another person’s account to work around an unavailable route.
Should I deposit more if the first payment is delayed?
First establish what happened to the existing payment. Check the provider status, the intended account and the method’s processing guidance, then request a trace through official support when appropriate. A second payment can create a duplicate funding problem without resolving the original one.
