Price Volume Trend Calculator
Calculate Price Volume Trend from entered close and volume rows with each relative change, volume contribution and cumulative value exposed.
Enter ordered close-volume rows
Use completed observations from one symbol, timeframe, broker feed and consistent volume type.
One completed row per line. Volume may be zero but cannot be negative.

How Price Volume Trend is calculated
Contribution = relative change × current volume
PVT = previous PVT + contribution
Version 1.0.0 sets PVT to zero on the first entered row. From the second row onward, only the current row volume is weighted by its close-to-close relative change.
Because PVT is cumulative, changing the first entered row or preceding history changes the absolute sequence. The history seed and every contribution remain visible.
Assumptions and limits
- At least two ordered rows with positive closes are required.
- Volume may be zero but cannot be negative.
- Rows must use one symbol, timeframe, broker feed and consistent volume type.
- Spot-forex tick volume counts price changes rather than centralized executed volume.
- Direction, pressure, trend confirmation, divergence and trading interpretations are withheld.

How to interpret the result
PVT is path-dependent because it begins from a zero seed and accumulates every entered contribution. The absolute value has no standalone price or cash unit, and a positive latest contribution does not prove accumulation or future direction.
Frequently asked questions
- Enter at least two ordered close-and-volume rows from one symbol, timeframe, broker feed and consistent volume type.
- The current volume is multiplied by current close minus previous close divided by previous close.
- Version 1.0.0 sets PVT to zero on the first entered row, then begins contributions on the second row.
- The contribution is zero and the prior PVT value carries forward.
- PVT is cumulative, so a different history starting point, volume series or zero-seed boundary changes the sequence.
- MetaTrader commonly supplies tick volume, which counts price changes rather than centralized executed turnover.
- PVT adds a relative-price-change-weighted part of current volume, while OBV adds or subtracts the whole current volume.
- No. Direction, pressure, confirmation, divergence, trend, entry and exit labels are withheld.
