Download Tickmill MT4 through its official platform page, then connect with your MT4 account number, trading password and assigned server. Use desktop MT4 for compatible custom indicators and EAs.
MT4 is a practical choice when your existing indicators and Expert Advisors are written for it. The important question is whether those tools work in the version you intend to use. A desktop MT4 program is not automatically an iPhone app, a web indicator or an MT5 program.
Tickmill’s public page offers Windows, Mac, Android, iOS and WebTrader routes. We inspected the public download choices; we did not install its terminal or connect a funded account for this guide.

Start from the official broker page instead of a search advertisement offering a modified installer. Review the installer publisher and the current operating-system instructions. A file extension alone does not establish that a download is authentic.
Connect MT4, step by step
- Create or identify an MT4 account. Tickmill lists Classic and Raw on MetaTrader. Read the account comparison before opening one.
- Save the trading credentials. You need the account number, trading password and exact server, including whether it is demo or live.
- Install the chosen MT4 version. Follow the current official instructions for that device. Do not assume the Mac and Windows installation routes are identical.
- Open the trading-account login. MetaQuotes documents File → Login to Trade Account for desktop MT4.
- Enter the matching details. The account number goes in the login field; your Client Area email is not a substitute.
- Confirm the connection. Check the account identity, server and terminal status before placing any order. If you use an investor password, the account is read-only.
For a first attempt, a demo account lets you practise the controls with virtual money. A connected demo proves neither live execution quality nor successful withdrawal handling.
Set up a custom indicator or EA carefully
MT4 desktop uses MQL4 programs. A compiled EX4 file or MQL4 source belongs to that platform family; renaming an EX5 file does not convert it. Keep a copy of the developer’s instructions and check whether the tool needs a particular build, symbol format or timeframe.
- Open the desktop terminal’s data folder and use the appropriate MQL4 subfolder for the program type.
- Refresh the Navigator or restart the terminal as required by the installation instructions.
- Attach the tool to the intended demo chart and review its inputs.
- Grant only the permissions the program actually needs. Understand any request for DLL imports or automated trading before enabling it.
- Check the Experts and Journal messages if the tool does not load or behaves unexpectedly.
An indicator can display information without placing orders. An EA may have trading permissions, but its name or folder does not prove that it is safe or profitable. Test the actual behaviour rather than relying on a promotional screenshot.
Check account conditions inside the platform

Do not copy the largest leverage number from a general account table into an MT4 calculation. Tickmill’s FAQ distinguishes MT4’s stated 1:500 limit from higher selected MT5 and Tickmill Trader arrangements. Entity and instrument conditions still control your account. Use the leverage guide and actual symbol specification.
Before practising an order, inspect contract size, volume step, margin, swap and trading hours. Gold, indices and forex do not all share one pip value or lot definition.
If MT4 is connected but something is wrong
For an authorisation error, compare the account number, password, server and platform together. For a missing symbol, check the available instrument list and symbol naming. For a missing indicator, check its platform version, data folder and error messages.
Mobile or web access does not mean a custom desktop indicator will appear on that device. Likewise, an EA running on your local computer generally needs that terminal to stay running and connected. The VPS guide explains what remote hosting can and cannot change.

Is Tickmill MT4 free to download?
The official platform download is offered without a platform purchase charge. Trading costs, data requirements, third-party tools or hosting can still apply.
Can I use my MT5 account in MT4?
Use an MT4 trading account and its assigned server. The two platform account types are not interchangeable.
Can I install an EX4 indicator on MT4 mobile?
Desktop custom MQL4 programs do not automatically run in MT4 mobile or WebTrader. Use the supported desktop environment and verify the tool’s requirements.
Why does MT4 connect but not place trades?
An investor password gives read-only access. Market hours, account permissions and instrument conditions can also prevent orders; read the specific terminal message.
Does Tickmill MT4 offer 1:1000 everywhere?
No. The current FAQ distinguishes MT4’s stated 1:500 limit, and entity and instrument restrictions remain relevant. Do not apply a global headline to every account.
