Managing an XM profile is different from managing an individual trading account. Before requesting an additional account, transfer, setting change or closure, identify the account, currency, platform, open exposure and applicable terms. Use the controls available in your official account interface, and ask support to confirm actions whose consequences are unclear.
Create a small account map first
A profile can lead to different account-management tasks, but a label such as “my XM account” is too vague when you need support to change something. Record the legal company, profile contact details, trading-account identifiers, platforms, currencies and whether each account is demo or live. Store this privately and keep passwords elsewhere.
For each account, write its purpose: learning a terminal, trading a particular permitted product, or retaining historical records. This helps prevent confusion when several accounts use similar names or balances. It also makes it easier to identify an unused account without assuming it can be deleted immediately.
The XM account-opening guide covers initial registration and verification. This guide begins after that point and concentrates on changing or organising what already exists.
Decide which task you actually need
| Your objective | Question to resolve first | Related guide |
|---|---|---|
| Use another platform or pricing structure | Can this account change, or is an additional account required? | Account types |
| Move money between your accounts | Which source, destination, currencies and restrictions apply? | Funding and bonus conditions |
| Change leverage | What happens to existing margin? | Leverage and margin |
| Correct profile information | Which supporting evidence and verified channel are required? | Account opening and support |
| Stop using an account | Does this mean archiving a trading account or ending the relationship? | Closure preparation below |
Separating the objective from the interface prevents a common mistake: taking the action whose button is easiest to find instead of the one that solves the problem. An additional account may be appropriate for a separate purpose, but it is not a password-recovery method or a way to bypass a restriction.
Use XM login help for access issues before attempting account reorganisation. You need reliable access to the correct profile to interpret the available controls.
Compare settings before requesting another account
Write down the combination you want: platform, account type, base currency and intended instrument. Then compare it with the choices actually offered in your account interface. Public XM account descriptions can help you identify questions, but the presentation checked here was an EEA version and is not proof of a universal Global account menu.
Ask support whether the existing account can be changed or a new trading account is required. Do not transplant another region’s “account type cannot change” rule into your account without confirmation. If a new account is the offered route, establish its costs and terms before accepting it.
Our account-types guide owns the pricing and product comparison. Keep the existing account intact while you establish the new account’s identity and confirm which records, positions or settings would need separate attention. Do not assume any of those migrate automatically.
Prepare an internal transfer with both sides visible
An internal transfer has a source and destination, even when both belong to you. Record both account identifiers and currencies. Check available funds rather than relying on balance alone, because open positions and other requirements can affect what is transferable.
Read the transfer preview for the amount debited, amount credited, conversion rate and any restrictions. If the interface does not explain a conversion or a bonus adjustment, obtain that explanation before approving it. The XM bonus guide explains why trading credit and cash should be considered separately.
For a fictional currency example, a €100 transfer converted at 1.10 USD per EUR would produce $110 before charges or adjustments. If the actual quote credits $108, the $2 difference needs an explanation, such as a different rate or charge. Those are invented numbers, not an XM conversion quote.
Check what removing funds does to open exposure
A transfer or withdrawal can change the margin available to support positions. Before moving funds, review equity, used margin and the projected free margin on the source account. Do not assume that because an amount appears transferable, removing it is consistent with your risk plan.
For a simplified fictional account, $1,000 equity with $200 used margin produces a 500% margin level. Removing $300, assuming the same positions and no other adjustments, would leave $700 equity and a 350% margin level. Market movements and credit rules can change the actual result, so this is only a planning illustration.
The XM leverage guide explains these calculations. If a transfer is pending, check its status before repeating it. Keep the reference and time so support can distinguish a failed request from an accepted request awaiting completion.

Change profile information through a verified channel
An email, address or other profile change can affect verification and recovery. Identify exactly what is wrong and prepare the evidence requested by the official account process. Do not upload documents through a link supplied by an unverified social-media contact.
If you no longer control the registered email or authentication method, tell support that this is an access-recovery problem as well as a profile update. Ask which ownership-verification steps apply. Avoid changing unrelated settings during recovery, because that can make it harder to track what was authorised and completed.
After a change you request, verify the new detail in the official interface and retain the confirmation. If the displayed information remains unchanged, ask whether the request is pending or rejected and what specific correction is needed. Do not promise yourself a deadline based on another customer’s experience.
Keep a record before a long break
Export statements and payment records while access is working. Save the account identity, period covered and currency with each record so you can interpret it later. Include open positions, pending orders and active product subscriptions in your review; closing a browser does not stop those activities.
Review the dormancy policy in the current account agreement. The XM fees guide summarises the separately verified Belize provision. Do not assume simply logging in counts as the activity defined by your own agreement, or that an archived account has been formally closed.
Choose an appropriate account-management action based on your circumstances. Trading merely to keep an account active can introduce greater costs and risk than the administrative issue it is meant to solve. Ask whether balance withdrawal or a formal closure request is the right route for an unused account.
Prepare closure as a sequence, not a delete button
First decide whether you mean one trading account, an unused demo, a product subscription or the overall client relationship. Explain that scope in your request. Those actions can have different consequences, and removing an app from your phone does not perform any of them.
- Export the statements and confirmations you need for the relevant account.
- Review open positions, pending orders, copy subscriptions and other ongoing services.
- Establish how any remaining balance, credit or outstanding charge will be handled.
- Ask the official support team for the applicable closure process and identify the exact account scope.
- After completion, obtain a confirmation and verify which accounts or services remain active.
Our withdrawal guide covers retrieving available funds. Where a subscription is involved, consult the copy-trading guide and confirm that exposure and fees are settled as intended. Do not assume profile closure is an immediate substitute for those tasks.

Reconcile the result of a management request
After a transfer, compare the source debit and destination credit. After an account-setting change, inspect the saved setting on the intended account. After closure, check the written confirmation and whether it covers the exact account or relationship requested.
If the result differs from the preview, preserve the request reference, time, quoted amount and actual record. Ask support to explain the difference against the applicable conditions. For privacy, send account identifiers and documents only through the verified private channel.
A useful request is specific: “Please confirm whether this instruction closes only the identified MT5 trading account or also affects my remaining account and profile access.” That gives support a concrete distinction to resolve and avoids accidental assumptions about the scope of the action.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change an existing XM account type?
Check your account’s current options or ask support whether a change is available or an additional account is required. A rule verified for another XM entity should not be treated as universal.
Does an internal transfer change my total wealth?
Moving funds between your own accounts does not create a trading profit. Conversion, charges or credit adjustments can affect the amount received, so reconcile both sides in consistent currency units.
Is archiving the same as closing my profile?
Do not assume so. Ask which account status applies, whether access or fees remain relevant, and whether a separate closure request is required.
Can deleting the app close trades or stop subscriptions?
No. Removing local software should not be treated as an account instruction. Use the official account and product controls, verify the resulting state and retain confirmation.
